6 Considerations For Choosing Which Seeds To Pop Next
Plus, 3 New Flavors I'm Popping & Why
Since I started my Hobby Grow in 2019, I’ve stockpiled more than a dozen cuts and 1200+ seeds.
And that does’t even include bag seeds, my Fiancé’s collection, or the seeds I’ve already popped.
As a hobby grower, your efforts are limited both by space and plant count.
As a medical patient in Colorado with an Extended Plant Count, I’m able to have 23 plants, but I can only flower so many at a time–6 to be exact.
A full stable means I’m smoking the same varieties for at least the next 8 months, assuming no hiccups in my schedule.
So, I had to make two tough choices:
Kill half the stable to make room for new flavors.(Guided by 3 Brutally Simple Yes-or-No Questions)
Sort through hundreds of seeds and pick those new flavors.(Guided by 6 Subjective Considerations)
6 Considerations For Choosing New Flavors
If you’re a hobby grower with too many cuts and seeds to choose from, narrow down your selections with these 6 considerations and I promise you’ll find something exciting to hunt through:
Final ProductWith limited space, I am looking for a balance between plants best suited for flower and hash.
Consumer PreferenceThe flavors I love are not always the same as those of my household, and maintaining a selection that offers something for everyone is key.
Type of SeedThe seeds I have vary–I’ve got regs and fems and autos. In this case, I’m hunting photoperiod plants, maintaining a balance between regs that require sexing and fems that do not.
Regional VarietyEvery market has its own saturation issues; Colorado is no different. I specifically chose varieties from different areas of the country that had not yet become popular locally.
ExclusivityOn a similar note, one of the advantages of hobby growing is the opportunity to explore limited releases that may not be suited for commercial production. Packs from limited drops offer a chance to find something unique.
Variety of FlavorNot just within the grow, but, specifically, looking for flavors that we haven’t had recently.
